BBQ Popcorn for Dinner

I LOVE POPCORN. I’m always looking for new popcorn recipes and unique ways to make it. Its interactive for the entire family and really is, hands down, one of the best snacks. Teaming up with Whirley Pop was such a fun experience. They literally have everything to make your popcorn creating experience a cinch. I used their open flame popcorn popper in this recipe but have been using their original stove-top popper for years. Regardless of which popper you use,  you’ll be delighted by the perfectly popped kernels. In my books, popcorn is okay for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner!

  • Difficulty
    Super Easy

  • 1 jalapeno minced- seeds and ribs removed for a milder flavor
  • 2tbsp popcorn oil/butter
  • 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
  • 2tsp BBQ rub or seasoning
  • 1tsp dried parsley
  • 2tbsp BBQ sauce

  1. Preheat your grill to medium high heat or start a campfire.
  2. Mince the jalapeno and set aside.
  3. Place your Whirley Pop on the grill or over-top a fire. Add your popcorn oil or butter, jalapeno, popcorn kernels, and BBQ rub.
  4. Close the lid and allow the kernels to steam, get hot, and pop over the fire or grill. I like to shake it every 20-30 seconds. Keep the lid closed! No peeking! The steam inside will cause the kernels to pop.
  5. Once the popping slows down, about 2-3 seconds between pops, remove from the grill or fire and carefully transfer to a large bowl. Drizzle in the BBQ sauce and sprinkle with parsley and a little extra BBQ rub. Toss to coat evenly.
  6. Serve in mini paper bags or simply in a large bowl. Can be stored for 3 days in a Ziploc bag or airtight container.

  • When your popcorn is done, taste for salt and add if needed. Popcorn should be salty!
  • I like to gather all my ingredients onto a sheet tray, so I have everything ready to go.
  • Whirley Pop has ready to use open fire popcorn kits that already have everything measured out for you. Check the link below.
