    15 cups
  • Difficulty
    Easy

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp oil- something light and flavorless such a canola, vegetable
  • 3/4 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1tsp salt
  • 2 cups mini pretzels
  • 1 cup pink melting chocolate (or use more white melting chocolate and add pink food coloring)
  • 1 cup white melting chocolate
  • M&M’s
  • Optional- nuts, coconuts, sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Add your oil and popcorn to your whirley pop and place on the stovetop on medium heat. If you do not have a whirley pop (why wouldn’t you though?!?) you can pop your popcorn in a large pot fitted with a lid and continuously shake your popcorn every 10 seconds. You want a very plain popcorn since we will be adding so many other flavors to it, so buttered popcorn is a NO here. Keep turning the whirley pop handle or shaking your pot until you no longer hear the kernels popping or until its very seldom and spaced out.
  2. Pour your popcorn in an even layer on a large baking tray and allow to cool. Once cool, mix in your pretzels.
  3. While the popcorn is cooling, melt your chocolate. I put my chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and heat it up in increments of 30 seconds, stirring in between each 30 seconds until the chocolate is totally melted. Take your time here, so you do not burn or seize your chocolate. You can also use the double boiler method on the stove-top and melt your chocolate on low heat, stirring constantly until all your chocolate is melted.
  4. Taking a spoon or spatula, drizzle one chocolate at a time over the popcorn until both chocolates are gone. While the chocolate is warm, add the M&M’s so they stick and any other optional additions you like.
  5. Allow the chocolate to dry and set. Once dry and set, your snack mix is ready to be snacked on!! You can also place it in individual boxes or baggies for a fun treat for your valentines.

Tips

  • I’m not a fan of microwaveable popcorn even though its quick and easy. I thin k you will find that using a Whirley pop is just as fast and the flavor is even better, so I suggest everyone to try making their popcorn on the stove-top at least once. I bet you never go back to microwavable popcorn.
