Easy Apple Cranberry Turnovers
- Difficulty
Medium
Ingredients
- 1-21 oz can apple pie filling
- ½ orange zested and juiced
- 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 box of frozen puff pastry or 2 sheets- thawed according to package
- Flour for rolling out the puff pastry
- 1 egg
- ½ cup powder sugar
- 1tbsp milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375° F. Prepare your baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
- In a medium sized bowl, combine the apple pie filling, orange zest, orange juice, cranberries, and cinnamon. Set aside.
- Beat egg in small bowl and set aside.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the first sheet of puff pastry into one large square and cut into four equal sized squares. Repeat with the second sheet.
- Scoop 2 tablespoon of the apple cranberry mixture onto one side of the square leaving ½”-1” boarder.
- Brush egg wash on the edges of the puff pastry to help seal the pastry together and to act like glue.
- Bring edges together and seal using the backside of a fork.
- Using a small knife, place a few slits in the top of the puff pastry. Transfer to your parchment lined baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with the egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
- While the turnovers are baking, prepare the glaze by mixing the powder sugar and milk together. You want the glaze to be thick so you might need to add extra powder sugar.
- Remove the turnovers from the oven and allow to slightly cool. Drizzle the glaze overtop the turnovers and serve warm.
- You could also skip the glaze and serve with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
- Puff pastry is very delicate, so you want to work fairly fast. If you find your pastry is getting too soft and sticky, simply pop into the fridge or freezer for a few minutes to firm it back up.
