Ingredients
- 3 small or 2 large apples
- 1 cup flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- Salt
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ cup milk
- Oil or beef tallow (for frying)
GLAZE
- 1 ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1-1 ½ tbsp milk
Instructions
- Peel and dice the apples into 1-inch cubes. Toss them in cinnamon and sugar.
- In a mixing bowl, add the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Whisk until fully combined
- Then, add the milk and egg to the mixture. Don’t overmix; the batter should be slightly lumpy.
- Gently fold the apple cubes into the batter.
- In a deep pan or fryer, heat oil to 350°F.
- Drop spoonfuls of batter into the oil. Fry each fritter for around 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- Transfer the fritters onto a cooling rack.
- To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until fully combined.
- Dip the fritters in the glaze. Serve and enjoy this warm and flavorful fall recipe!
TIPS
- You can use any apple of your choice for this recipe. I used Pink Ladies for more sweetness, but I would also recommend Granny Smith for a tart flavor.
- When making the batter, stir the wet and dry ingredients until just combined to keep the fritters light and tender. Don’t overmix!
- When frying, work in small batches to ensure each fritter is cooked thoroughly.
- You can pat the fritters with a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
