Ingredients


  • 1 large Vidalia onion
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning or creole
  • 1 ½ tbsp dried parsley
  • 1 ½ tbsp lemon pepper
  • 1 ½ tbsp garlic powder
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions


  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Chop off the top and bottom of the onion and peel the skin off.
  3. Using a small knife, cut out the middle of the onion and fill it with 4 tbsp of butter.
  4. Score the top of the onion (4×4 ways) to ensure all the seasonings and butter can melt into it.
  5. Place the onion in a small oven-safe bowl with a lid. Top it with 1 tbsp of each seasoning,
  6. In another small bowl, microwave 2 tbsp of butter until melted. Whisk in the rest of each seasoning into the melted butter.
  7. Pour the melted butter mixture over the top of the onion.
  8. Bake in the oven for 1 hour with the lid on.
  9. Remove from the oven and serve with warm crostini or any side of choice.

TIPS

  • Make sure to get one of the larger onions at the store, it makes coring much easier.
  • Scoring the onion before adding the toppings makes it spread like a blooming onion in the oven.
  • This recipe is a healthier version of a blooming onion!
